Power, when unchecked, breeds tyranny. This is the unfortunate reality playing out under President Ruto’s Chief of Staff, Felix Koskei. Once a bureaucrat, he now sees himself as the ultimate authority—wielding power like a warlord, bullying those who refuse to bow to his whims.
Koskei, alongside a group of Kalenjin doctors, has set his sights on Nairobi Hospital, a private facility. Their mission? To take control of one of Kenya’s premier medical institutions through coercion and manipulation.
Strong-Arming the Board
The current Nairobi Hospital Board has refused to play along. They have maintained their ground, resisting pressure to hand over control to Koskei’s clique. But Koskei, drunk on power, won’t take no for an answer. Instead, he has resorted to intimidation tactics—personally calling board members and issuing them an ultimatum: Resign or face the consequences.
As if that weren’t enough, he has now dragged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) into the scheme. The goal? To harass and intimidate board members into submission, making way for a handpicked team that will rubber-stamp the hospital’s takeover.
Summoned and Cornered
Koskei has now summoned the board members for a meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning. The unwritten directive? Walk in with your resignation letter in hand. After that, expect to take a trip to DCI headquarters—where further pressure will be applied.
It’s a textbook case of state-backed corporate capture, fueled by arrogance and entitlement. The men surrounding President Ruto are acting as if Kenya is a family inheritance, where they can seize what they want, whenever they want.

A Warning to the Power-Hungry
But power is fleeting. Today, Koskei is a feared enforcer; tomorrow, he will be just another name in Kenya’s long history of fallen power brokers. The arrogance and impunity with which he operates will not last forever.
History has shown us that no regime is permanent. Those who use state machinery to trample others often find themselves on the receiving end when the tides shift. Koskei and his ilk would do well to remember that.
For now, all eyes are on Nairobi Hospital. Will the board stand its ground, or will it fall victim to state-sponsored intimidation? One thing is certain: Kenyans are watching. And when the day of reckoning comes, no amount of power will shield the perpetrators from accountability.
